CONFIRMED! HDMI 2.1 on M2 Pro/Max MacBook Pro and Mac mini (Tested on LG OLED TV @ 4K/120/HDR/VRR)

With the launch of the M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pro and Mac mini, Apple has finally added HDMI ports capable of up to 8K resolution at 60Hz or 4K resolution at 240Hz.

I just got my base model MacBook Pro 14″ with the M2 Pro chip, and the first thing I did after the initial setup wizard is try to connect it to my LG C1 48″ OLED TV to see if the HDMI 2.1 support actually works.

Check out the video to see how my experience was.

In summary, it is confirmed that we can indeed run the new M2 Pro MacBook Pro with an LG TV at 4K 120Hz with HDR. And I don’t have one to test personally, but we can assume the M2 Pro Mac mini as well as the M2 Max MacBook Pros can also do this.

This was just a quick test to verify if the new M2 Pro machines can indeed support HDMI 2.1 with an LG OLED TV. I’ll do some more testing and let you know if I find anything worth sharing. Have a great day!
